Committees — and subcommittees — are one place where I believe we might have real impact as constituents as the budget process begins in Sacramento. This is a quick note to let folks know that there is a hearing of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee No. 3 on Education Finance tomorrow, and it's all about Prop 98 and the Governor's proposed approach to the guarantee.
How to Submit Testimony
Last night I was unable to find a way to submit public testimony through the online portal, so I called the subcommittee office today and was shocked — in a good way — that an actual human picked up after two rings. We had a nice conversation and they were super helpful. Here's the gist of it:
- There's no way to submit public testimony through the portal because the bill hasn't been assigned yet.
- Communication through email is being organized right now by staff, and will be best sent via one of the subcommittee consultants (in this case, Erin Gabel).
- This is a great time to make your voice heard. Call anytime with questions about how, they said.
I submitted my testimony (almost kept it to one page!) to consultant Erin Gabel at erin.gabel@asm.ca.gov and the general committee address asmbudget@asm.ca.gov. If you have any questions about how to get involved with this particular Assembly committee, there was no wait to talk to them directly. Your tax dollars at work.

I also wanted to flag that the latest agenda is up for Wednesday's meeting. The presentation will be centered on upcoming staffing cuts and the longer-term plan for stabilization. If you'd like to attend in person, let me know if you wanna go — happy to coordinate.
